Profile

A wild-card inclusion for Bangladesh's maiden tour of England in 2005, Mushfiqur Rahim was just 16 when he was selected for that daunting trip - two Tests in May, followed by six ODIs against England and Australia - even though he hadn't been named in the preliminary squad of 20. Mushfiqur was principally selected as an understudy to the ever-present wicketkeeper, Khaled Mashud, but his inclusion was further evidence of Bangladesh's determination to build for a better future. He had done well on an A-team tour of Zimbabwe earlier in 2005, scoring a century in the first Test at Bulawayo, and also enjoyed some success in England the previous year with the Under-19s, making 88 in the second Test at Taunton. He showed more evidence of grit with the full team, with a maiden first-class half-century to soften the pain of defeat against Sussex, followed by a career-best 115 against Northamptonshire. That earned him a call-up - as a batsman - to become the youngest player to appear in a Test match at Lord's. He was one of only three players to reach double figures in a disappointing first innings, but a twisted ankle kept him out of the second Test. After captaining Bangladesh's Under-19s to fifth place in the Youth World Cup in February 2006, he also featured in Bogra's inaugural Test, against Sri Lanka the following month, but could make little of the spin of Murali and Malinga Bandara. He remained on the sidelines for the next few months but was recalled for the final two ODIs against Zimbabwe at home in December. He scored his maiden half-century at Harare in February 2007 and was picked as the first-choice wicketkeeper, ahead of Khaled Mashud, for the World Cup in the West Indies.

He shows sound technique in his glovework and is Bangladesh's first-choice wicketkeeper after Dhiman Ghosh's departure to the ICL. A stodgy lower-order batsman, Mushfiqur has grown into one of the better players of spin in the line-up. After a slow start to his Test career, he found form in the 2008-09 season with stubborn knocks under pressure. He has under-performed as a batsman in ODIs, but his form picked up in 2009 and he narrowly missed out on a maiden ODI hundred on the tour to Zimbabwe. In January 2010 he cracked his maiden Test century, a notable achievement as it came against a strong Indian Test side and was the fastest by a Bangladesh player.

A left-hand opening batsman, Imrul Kayes was the leading run-scorer for Khulna Division in the 2007-08 National Cricket League less than 12 months since making his first-class debut. Kayes soon made his way into Bangladesh's Academy team. With Bangladesh struggling to find a partner for Tamim Iqbal, Kayes staked his claim with impressive performances at the top of the order during the Academy's tour of Sri Lanka, and was rewarded with a place in Bangladesh's ODI squad to face New Zealand in October 2008. Profile

Jamie Siddons represented Australia only once at international level - he made 32 in a one-day match at Lahore in 1988 - but his involvement with the national team increased substantially since his retirement. Siddons was an assistant coach of the Australian team after being appointed as a senior coach at the Centre of Excellence before the 2005 Ashes. Prior to his promotions, Siddons spent four years as the South Australia assistant under the tutelage of Wayne Phillips and Greg Chappell. The swift rise through the management ranks was set up by a career as one of the greatest domestic players never to win a Test cap.

Profile

Junaid Siddique, a left-handed batsman and occasional right-arm offbreak bowler, has represented Rajshahi Division since 2003-04. Decent performances on the domestic circuit earned him a spot in the Bangladesh A side. Junaid was named in Bangladesh's 30-man shortlist for the World Cup but did not make the final 15. Not yet 20, he was called up to Bangladesh's squad for the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa. An opening batsman with a high backlift, Junaid likes to attack the bowling. He made an positive impact in his debut Test, scoring a sparkling 74 in Dunedin. He troubled New Zealand again in the return series, hitting 85 in Bangladesh's maiden ODI win against them. However, he has struggled for consistency, especially in ODIs. Despite his technical difficulties in handling short, fast bowling being exposed by Stuart Broad in the first innings, Junaid overcame his weaknesses to register his maiden Test hundred against England in the second innings of the first Test at Chittagong in March 2010.

Profile

Mohammad Ashraful is currently Bangladesh's most experienced player but success had eluded him of late, and he's struggled to live up to the expectations he'd set with his exploits in the bat earlier in his career. Ashraful hit the headlines with his flamboyant strokeplay during his match-winning century that stunned Australia in Cardiff. Amid fluctuation in form, he was appointed captain and his stint proved to be disappointing, not to mention his own performance with the bat. He was replaced by Mashrafe Mortaza at the helm, and was eventually dropped from the side. He won a recall for the World Twenty20 in the Caribbean in 2010, and was awarded a top-level central contract despite not playing the 4-0 win over New Zealand.

Profile

A key member of the Bangladesh line-up, Abdur Razzak, the left-arm spinner, has had trouble with his action, having been reported in 2008 which led to a suspension. However, he's managed to rectify it since and delivered consistent performances. Since the retirement of Mohammad Rafique, Razzak has assumed to the role of Bangladesh's lead spinner and will be backed up by Mahmudullah, Naeem Islam and Suhrawardi Shuvo in the squad.

Razzak has proven particularly effective in the middle overs and the captains have also turned to him to bowl up front on occasion. He's opened the bowling for Bangladesh and varies his pace well as well as flight. He can also be handy with the bat down the order.

Profile

Quite comfortably, Bangladesh's ace batsman in the current line-up. Tamim is a vital component of Bangladesh's top order, is technically correct and has a wide repertoire of shots, but is particularly strong through the off side. He shot to fame with an attacking half-century against India in the 2007 World Cup; his charge down the track to smash Zaheer Khan out of the ground being the standout feature of that knock. Since then, he's cemented his place in the side with success in both Tests and in ODIs.
